ROSES: Top Crochet Pattern – Crochet Tutorial in English
$4.00
User Review
( votes)Sheer crochet top featuring a sweet open-work design. The top is perfect for layering – pair it with tight-fitting tank tops or sweaters, jeans or skirts. Choose cotton yarn, as it allows your skin to breathe, especially if you wear this light top over a bikini. Or make a wool variant and wear it in winter.
The roses are created by filling in a basic mesh pattern with double crochet stitches (in American crochet terms). Filet garments are created with only two stitches: the chain and double crochet. This pattern is easy to follow if you know the filet technique. There are no lengthy instructions like /1 dc, 2 ch, skip 2 ch/ because the filet technique is gridlike and therefore it is not about reading – it’s about crocheting. Grid is the most important thing here.
This tutorial explains how to crochet filet top using small amount of yarn (just 130 grams = 4.6 oz for size S with bust 84-92 cm/33”-36’’). For bigger sizes I explain how to calculate the initial amount of stitches based on your measurements and add more fillet blocks along the sides. For a slight increase use thicker yarn or bigger hook.
Yarn: Fingering / 4 ply / 400 m in 100 gr / 440 yards in 3.5 oz / example . Total yarn usage for size S is 570 yards (520 m).
You will receive:
► filet grid for size S with instructions for calculating the amount of stitches for bigger sizes (all additional stitches are worked along the sides of the top);
► tutorial in ENGLISH of how to work filet patterns, make necessary decreases for the armholes in the fillet technique – it is rather a beginner’s guide;
► row-by-row description for edge pattern.

Sally –
I like this pattern, but can it be made longer? I need to cover my belly :).

Hi Sally,
Thank you for the purchase! The simplest way is using bigger hooks so that each filet mesh equals to 1 x 1 cm (0.4″ x 0.4”). This allows to increase the length of original filet roses from 24 cm (9.5’’) to 30 cm (11.8”) and they will still look beautiful.
Besides do not start crocheting filet roses from the first row – work several rows with empty meshes (for the length comfortable for your belly) and then start crocheting roses from the 1st row of the original filet chart.
Happy crocheting!
